The Department of Student Activities at AlShaab University organized a workshop entitled “Fires and Methods of Prevention” in its central hall on Tuesday, April 4th in cooperation and coordination with the Civil Defense Center in Al-Bayaa Sector. In attendance were professors, officials, and employees of the Civil Defense Center in Al-Bayaa.
The workshop, presented by Captain Muhammad Hashim Jouhi of the Al-Bayaa Civil Defense Center, provided a detailed explanation of fires and methods of extinguishing them. He touched on the means and methods used to extinguish all kinds of chemical fires, liquid fires, electrical fires, and kitchen fires, as well as solid material fires in homes, businesses and public spaces. Captain Jouhi also highlighted the importance of fire extinguishers by explaining the differences in extinguishers used for different fire classes, as well as following the correct means of using and storing fire extinguishers in a way that ensures their operational lifespan.
Captain Muhammad Hashem Juhi expressed the need for cooperation between the university and the civil defense sector to ensure public safety rules and protocols are followed in the event of a fire. These rules and protocols are designed to minimize response times, which reduces the risk for property damage, injury or even death to responders and the public alike.
The President of AlShaab University stressed the need to hold such workshops to increase educational awareness of civil defense issues. He explained that the university will install a fire alarm system designed to detect the outbreak of fires and provide warnings, and as part of AlShaab’s continued cooperation with civil defense agencies, will hold seminars, workshops and fire drills to ensure public safety.
Following the presentation, a number of professors participated in a discussion on fire safety which enriched the event by incorporating input from the audience.
