ِAlShaab University President Dr. Youssef Khalaf presented the workshop “Digital Transformation Standards” at the Al-Nahrain Center conference hall in Baghdad on Monday, February 7, 2023 as part of the Fourth International Conference on Geographic Information Systems and Smart Cities held by the Iraqi National Security Advisor.
In his workshop, Dr. Youssef also touched on the importance of digital transformation in governmental and educational institutions and the importance of this transformation in facilitating collaboration within the country. Special attention was given to the importance of digitization in the legal sector and how it has worked in Egyptian legal institutions, where technology allows for the judiciary to determine the validity and legality of case filings prior to a court hearing. Foreign experts in collaboration with state judges define and shape the digital transformation within legal institutions, much in the way that AlShaab University leads the digital transformation of higher education. AlShaab aims to be the first fully digital academic institution in Iraq which provides academic expertise in digitization to students, particularly those in the Department of Communications Engineering and the Department of Information Security Engineering in the College of Engineering.
Dr. Youssef Khalaf, in the presence of the Arab and foreign delegations, talked about the importance of the digital transformation sector and cybersecurity, with a clear vision on how to create an alternative to our current system: a virtual space in which we work, collaborate, and do business. He concluded the workshop by highlighting the importance of protecting systems, networks, and programs before digitizing state institutions or the private sector. Until appropriate cybersecurity measures are in place, reliance on paper remains a better option.
