AlShaab University, represented by College of Law teaching assistant Jumana Mahdi, contributed to the work of the ninth annual Conference on Social Disintegration held by Al-Mustansiriya University. The conference explores the role of Iraqi and comparative law in combating the phenomena of social disintegration. Participation in this conference is valuable for its role in enriching the conference, perpetuating channels of communication and mutual cooperation, creating opportunities for the exchange of information and opening dialogue among Iraqi universities.
The conference relied on research and studies presented on four simultaneous axes to radically address social disintegration, preventative measures, and policy recommendations to address current issues. These axes focused on issues of legal protection for children, drugs and psychotropic substances, human trafficking, sexual exploitation, combating electronic extortion, disintegration of the family structure, and applications of the Iraqi judiciary.
The conference put forth several recommendations, most notably the adoption of national plans and the enactment of laws that enhance the role of the family in society and preserve its security in order to achieve the stability of community. Also recommended are the development of joint programs to increase interaction between the family and the institutions of socialization, and the training of a team of specialists, social workers, psychologists and educators with the necessary professional skills to carry out family counseling programs.
