For the purpose of highlighting the role of women in society and aiming to enhance and consolidate their legal culture, political empowerment, and social empowerment, AlShaab University, in collaboration with the University of Baghdad - Women's Studies Center - Department of Policy and Legislative Research, organized a scientific seminar titled "The Impact of Enhancing Legal Culture for Women on Political and Social Empowerment." The seminar was held in Ibn Sina Hall at the university on Sunday, May 5, 2024, in the presence of the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Khamees Abdullah Ali, along with several professors, lecturers, and students of the university.
Mr. Khamees Abdullah Ali, the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, delivered a speech at the beginning of the seminar, emphasizing the importance of spreading legal awareness among members of society and enhancing the legal culture of Iraqi women. urging all government institutions and their cooperation to consolidate the role of women and guarantee their rights, and obtain community support to exercise those rights, and garner societal support for the exercise of those rights and their access to sovereign positions and decision-making centers.
During the seminar, Dr. Azra Ismail Zidan, the Director of the Women's Studies Center, discussed the concept of women's empowerment, its definition, important elements, and fundamental principles, as well as the main levels and areas that enable women's empowerment. Following this, the seminar commenced its sessions chaired by Dr. Ali Issa Al-Yaqoubi, a faculty member at AlShaab University, along with the session rapporteur, Dr. Shaimaa Majid Kazim from the Women's Studies Center.
The seminar included presentations of scientific research addressing various topics related to women. These included a presentation titled "International Agreements Supporting Women's Political Empowerment," delivered by Assoc. Prof. Sinan Salah Rashid from the Women's Studies Center, and another presentation focusing on "The National Strategy for Women's Political Empowerment," delivered by Dr. Riam Abdul Sattar Abdul Jabbar, also from the Women's Studies Center. Additionally, the seminar featured a discussion on "Barriers to Women's Political Empowerment under the Iraqi Constitution" by Mr. Issraa Mohammed Rizk from the URUK University - College of Law. The seminar concluded with the presentation of a study titled "Legal Dimensions of Empowering Iraqi Women," presented by Ms. Rouaa Talib Obeid, a lecturer at AlShaab University.
Subsequently, a discussion and dialogue session was opened regarding the seminar's topic and the research presented.
Finally, shields and certificates of appreciation were distributed to the participants in the seminar.
