AlShaab University held a special ceremony in the main hall of the central library to commemorate International Women’s Day (March 8) to honor the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world.
The ceremony was opened by Dr. Youssef Khalaf, AlShaab University President, with a speech in which he welcomed all women present in the hall and recognized the University’s special guests, Prof. Dr. Ibtihal Al-Zaidi, Minister of State for Women’s Affairs; Dr. Ahlam Shaheed, Director of the Women’s Empowerment Department in the Office of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Dr. Ibtisam Aziz, Deputy Chair of the Advisory Board of Global Action against Trafficking in Persons and the Smuggling of Migrants’ Women’s Network; and, Professor Dr. Bushra Al-Zwaini, a former Minister of State, who gave a presentation on women's roles in combating terrorism and confronting disinformation Mrs. Amna Aufi Rahumi of AlShaab University’s Women's Empowerment Unit spoke about women’s strengths: how they can support and stand up for themselves and face difficulties. Assistant Lecturer Layan Hazem Saeed, member of the AlShaab University faculty of law, spoke about the importance of supporting women and providing a suitable ground for them to actively participate in the workplace. She emphasized the principle of equality between men and women in both personal and professional settings.
In recognition of their efforts to advance women’s rights, Dr. Yousif Khalaf presented Prof. Dr. Bushra Al-Zwaini and Prof. Dr. Ibtihal Al-Zaidi with plaques and certificates. Dr. Ibtisam Aziz and Prof. Dr. Ahlam Shaheed were asked to present honors on behalf of the University to top performing female employees, starting with Ms. Shahd Khaled Mahdi, Director of the Office of the President, Ms. Rand Iyad Muhammad, Head of the Finance Department, and Ms. Amna Auf Rahumi.
Organized through the Department of Student Activities, two students, one male and one female, presented original poems about women and their role in motherhood, and the support and sacrifice, especially the mothers of martyrs, women provide to men The event concluded with a group photo which included all guests, professors and employees.
