In order to raise awareness about women's rights in society, halt the wrongful practices they face in workplaces and public areas, and increase societal awareness of their freedom to work, receive an education, and express their opinions and thoughts, AlShaab University organized an awareness seminar on women's rights and responsibilities in society. The seminar was specifically aimed at the university's female teaching, administrative, and technical staff and was held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, in the Ibn Sina Hall of the university building.
The event was attended by Prof. Dr Yousif Al-Dunainawi, the university president, who emphasized in his speech the importance of granting women their full rights in society and across all state institutions, including educational ones. He underscored that women have rights and responsibilities, whether they are students, faculty members, or employees within the campus. He highlighted the existence of a special department for women's empowerment tasked with supporting, protecting, and educating women about their legitimate rights enshrined in the constitution and law.
Prof. Dr Yousif Al-Dunainawi also mentioned that AlShaab University, committed to safeguarding these rights and preventing violations against women, has established a special complaint box. This allows any student, faculty member, or employee to report harassment or intentional misconduct encountered during work or official duties at the university to the relevant departments.
Following his speech, two lectures were delivered by Assistant Lecturer Ruaa Talib, the coordinator of the Faculty of Law at AlShaab University, and Assistant Lecturer Khansa Mohsen Mohammed, the director of the Legal Department. They shed light on the reality of women's conditions in Iraq, the attempts by some to undermine their legitimate rights, encroach on their freedom, and the ongoing efforts to expand wrongful practices and persistent violations against them.
