The department was established in the academic year 2023-2024 according to a letter from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Supervision and Scientific Evaluation Apparatus / Private Education Department, numbered (Ref/0000), dated 2023/10/00.
The department is founded on the principles that the continuity of life depends on a set of biochemical structures and interactions. These life biochemical reactions determine the vital functions of cells in both catabolic and anabolic directions. Therefore, this specialization is closely and organically related to the fields of genetics, physiology, cell biology, immunology, pharmacology, toxicology, diseases, and microbiology. These topics will be extensively covered in the curriculum, both theoretically and technically, in the specialized laboratories available to the department.

The department's mission and objectives
The mission and objectives of this department are comprehensive, as it encompasses the major branches of this discipline, such as structural and physiological or kinetic biochemistry, functional biochemistry, and clinical biochemistry. These fields collectively make up about a third of the diagnostic laboratory tests in hospitals and diagnostic laboratories. In addition to studying the structure and functions of cellular components, such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules, the program covers the study of enzyme chemistry and genetic codes in nucleic acids using advanced laboratory techniques and technologies.
